We would like to formally extend an invitation to "Informed Form" at the Design Matters Gallery
for the final reviews and end-of-year exhibition showcasing the work of the Post-Professional Graduate Design Studios at the USC School of Architecture
led by Alvin Huang.
The review will include student presentations of architectural proposals which challenge the relevance of the public library in a post-digital era, as well as a series of five full-scale mock-ups and prototypes (inspired by the projects) which will be installed and exhibited in the gallery.
"Informed Form" is an ongoing research initiative that explores the relevance of form as a product of reciprocity between geometry (form), force (performance), matter (organization), and craft (fabrication). It extends the design research legacies of analogue form-finding in the works of Frei Otto, Antonio Gaudi, Heinz Isler, and Felix Candela by exploring digital and analogue techniques for discovering form through variable material and geometric organizations and force simulations, while simultaneously considering the design opportunities being afforded by advances in computation and fabrication technologies.
