Mock-ups: The Architecture of Spatial Art opens on August 3, 2012

Synthesis would like to invite everyone to attend the opening of "Mockups: The Architecture of Spatial Art" @ the MOCA Shanghai at 6:30pm on August 3rd. This exhibition features a canopy and landscape installation on the roof terrace of the museum restaurant designed and installed by a team of USC Architecture students led by Neil Leach, Wendy Fok, and Alvin Huang of SDA.  The installation is an experiment in both digital and physical form-finding using mesh-relaxation techniques and materialized through a series of tensioned nets and shrink-wrapped skins. "Mock-up: Architecture of Spatial Art, 2012" marks a brand new start for MoCA Shanghai. The exhibition focuses on contemporary Chinese living spaces. While it considers the basic relationship between people and their living environments, it also extends multiple links between living spaces and the city. "Mock-up" will be a novel venture that pushes far past the boundaries of ordinary art exhibitions. Based on the idea of "Reconstruct, Break and Represent Space," it breaks down conventional ideas of museum spaces, exhibition modes and general visiting methods, while enabling visitors to interact directly with architects, designers, artists and their works, and to naturally blend into the art spaces. Every corner of life will be full of art.
